A lot of these near-Earth asteroids have literally trillions of dollars worth of material in them, but more important than bringing them back to Earth is the prospect of mining, processing and building things IN SPACE to go further outwards. Setup fuel depots. Power supplies. Agriculture.
Accommodation.
Mining asteroids is the first step to actually leaving the nest and exploring the rest of the solar system / Milky Way.
I mean everyone’s always saying it’s a long way off but fuck, 10 years after America as a COUNTRY said “let’s go to the moon”, we put a footprint in lunar dust. Those 43-year old footprints are still there.
Space is the path LEAST travelled. Let’s go freakin’ explore it.
